Name Pronounced: JRAS-ter
Character type: Dragonrider
Rank: Wingrider
Political Alignment: Politics? What Politics?
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Sexual Preference: Homosexual
Appearance: J'raster is quite attractive, and not in the vaguely feminine "pretty" way that people tend to expect of greenriders. He's tall and well-built, with a classically handsome face: straight nose, finely-shaped eyebrows, well-defined jaw, white teeth. His eyes are blue, and his hair is short but wavy golden blond. He's the sort of handsome that girls swoon over, and he's perfectly aware of that fact and dresses to flatter his best features.
Personality: To those who don't know him well, J'raster is a buffoon -- an attractive, charismatic one, but a buffoon nonetheless. Shallow, a bit airheaded, prone to making stupid mistakes... just another greenrider to help confirm the Fortian stereotype. And all of that is true, to an extent. Those who know him better, though, know that he's deeper than he seems. He's still immature in a lot of ways, sure, but he hates seeing other people upset and does his best to cheer them up. If he sees someone else in danger, he'll jump in in an instant... which is a dangerous way for a dragonrider to be, particularly at Fort. He always means well, but he just doesn't think things through all the way before committing to a course of action -- and by the time he realizes his mistake (and he *is* smart enough to know when he's done something he shouldn't have), it's too late to take it back.
He also craves attention, and he's an opportunist who will do almost anything to get it, sometimes even if it hurts others -- never on purpose, but again, his emotional shortsightedness always trips him up and leads him to pursue pleasure in the moment instead of reminding him of the consequences. It's hard for him to believe anything positive about himself, or about others' feelings for him, unless they're actively showing it. If people aren't looking at him, then he must not be attractive. If he isn't being praised for a job well done, then he must have performed poorly. If someone doesn't have sex with him, then they must not love him. His self-esteem is always linked to how others treat him, and that's incredibly unfortunate for a Fort greenrider. At his core, he's a positive guy, and he always flashes a smile and tries hard to push himself forward, but sometimes it's hard -- because of his esteem issues, he's easily taken advantage of.
Birth Place: Benden Weyr
Parents: Bluerider J'brant, Drudge Taslyn
History: J'raster is a weyrbrat, born and raised at Benden Weyr. His parents weren't exactly officially attached, but his mother was the woman J'brant always came back to eventually, and she always had feelings for him even though he wasn't exactly the nicest or move devoted rider around. Jabraster and his sister Jastrel weren't J'brant's only children, not by any stretch of the imagination, but they were the only ones the man really had any contact with, and sometimes he got curious enough about what they were up to to check in on them. He was always a little bit puzzled by his son, in particular, who was like a little walking talking version of himself (or so he liked to think).
His sister Impressed a nice green early on. J'raster, on the other hand, hung around as a candidate for much longer, waiting and waiting, not helped along one bit by the way his father occasionally peeked in to taunt him, asking him where he misplaced his bronze. (Really, J'raster probably inherited his immaturity directly from his father.) Eventually, though, Niqueth hatched and demanded his attention, and the two of them had a weyrlinghood full of failure, failure, and more failure -- J'raster because he just couldn't quite focus, and Niqueth because as a hatchling she absolutely refused to obey her rider at least half the time. They were even held back from graduating for a time, but as both of them gained skill and maturity, they were eventually released to join the Wings, where they did... well, decent enough, most of the time.
After the plague, though, wings were shuffled and trades were made, and J'raster was one of those who got unceremoniously transferred off to Fort, whether he liked it or not. He had heard things about the place, of course, and in his nervousness and eagerness to do things right and make a good impression, took exactly the wrong tactic for a greenrider -- dressing himself neat and attractively (which, with his good looks, turned the heads of those best left blissfully ignorant) and being overly-friendly with his new wingmates. T'redy jumped in to save him from himself before any real damage could be done, and J'raster has stuck like glue to him ever since.
Information about J'raster's dragon
Dragon Name: Niqueth
Colour: Green
Age: 6
Wing (Weyrling Group): None
Appearance: Niqueth (nee-qweth) is a large green -- not just in length or height, but in girth, as well. She's not *fat*, as it would be awfully hard for a fighting dragon to be in anything but good shape, but she is definitely big-boned, and stores just enough extra padding in all her curviest spots that you could safely call her... well, voluptuous is the word you'd use, if you want to stay on her good side. She my be loud and brash, but there's certainly no mistaking her femininity just by looking at her. Her hide is olive drab -- a businesslike shade of green that suits her well -- with lighter highlights down each side of her neck and along the front of both main wingbones.
Personality: There's a saying that, when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Niqueth is definitely a hammer. There's nothing restrained or subtle about this girl at all. If she has something to say, she says it loudly with no regard for the rank, or delicate feelings, of whomever she might be speaking to. If she sees something she doesn't like, her first instinct is to squish it. If something gets in her way, she'll go right through it if she can, no matter what she demolishes in the process. She'll never understand why her rider can't simply fix his problems by hitting something, breaking something, or stomping on something -- after all, almost anything can be fixed that way, right? Other people make things so darn complicated!
She loves fighting Thread, mostly because it gives her an excuse to be fierce and destroy something without getting in trouble for it, and eagerly awaits each Threadfall even though they still make her rider nervous. Her scars are battlewounds that she's proud of, and she'll show them off happily to anyone who is interested.
Weyr of Origin: Benden
Abilites and weaknesses: Niqueth is a strong green with good staying power -- in fact, she can't stand to land until the last of the greens in her group have gone back to the Weyr. She's got a good sense for how Thread falls, but she's prone to thinking that her sense is better than that of her leaders, and sometimes doesn't obey or stick to formation quite as strongly as she should.
