Homosexual relations happen in a Weyr. That is unavoidable as sure as dragons mate. Homosexuality and homosexual sex are not thought of as unnatural. They are part of the Way Things Are, after all. However, equally part of the Way Things Are is the "fact" that this makes non-heterosexuals inferior to "fully male" and "fully female" riders and Weyrfolk. Female homosexual relations are seen as rendering the women unsuited for the performance of womanly duties, and more importantly of the protection due to proper women. Male homosexual relations make women out of them men-- at least those who go into it willingly. Blues and greens are always willing, as far as the Weyr is concerned. Whores and greenriders, the saying goes, cannot be raped. Bronzes and browns may be either victimized or corrupted, depending on whether it occurs during a mating flight or not. A brownrider who willingly pursues a romantic or sexual relationship with a man outisde of a flight will be considered weak and ineligible for rank. A bronzerider who does so will be ostracized, a disgrace to his colour. A goldrider having any such contact with a woman is simply unthinkable. Ideas like these are championed by the Fort Weyrwoman, full sister of the Lord of Fort Hold, where "perverts" have been known to go missing.
