Post Format
Here's the format for full posts/joint posts/whatever-ya-call-ems. Round robin posts don't have a header (unless you want yours to). Title goes in the subject line.
Authors: (this would be you)
Personas: (player characters-- ones you have full sheets for)
NPCs: ('extras')
Mentioned: (other peoples' characters mentioned in your post. see below for rules on this)
Location: ('by the starstones,' 'on patrol over Ruatha,' 'in R'ider's weyr')
Relative Date: ('two days after the Hatching,' 'during the storm')
Summary: (brief summary of post)

To mention a character: Do not say that the character has done something the author has not specifically written, nor something that your characters couldn't know. If Kylee's writer wrote about her spilling a drink on R'ider in the dining hall, then it's okay for your character to see it and/or comment on it. If she did it in R'ider's priate weyr, then unless R'ider or Kylee is a gossip, and was written as telling other people, you won't know about it. Also exercise caution with someone else's 'personal' NPCs, such as an NPC sister or weyrmate. When in doubt, ask.
Out-of-character rules.
1.) All players must be at least fifteen years old or older. Your characters may be younger, but we don't want real life parents having Talks with us for corrupting their children.
2.) Flames will be dealt with quickly. If you have a problem with the game, gripe to the BoD, not to the players. Repeat offenders will face death by OW.
3.) RP is carried out in third person, past tense. You may experiment with different styles, but there's not been much long-term success with those in this setting. Full posts, an entire scene written out by one or more writers and sent to the list as a complete unit, are allowed. Our main method of operation is round-robin, where one writer starts a thread on the list, and others respond to it.
4.) This is not an absolute rule, but a strong suggestion. Lurk for a few days before creating a character. Read the roleplay, sample the mail load, say 'Hi' to the people on OOC. This is for your sake as much as ours. We welcome lurkers, and place no time limit on lurking.
In-character rules.
1.) In-character actions have in-character consequences. If your greenrider chooses to stand in the middle of the Weyr and tell off the Weyrleader, he'll be dead within the week. If the Weyrleader's in an amazingly good mood, he might just be exiled to Arolos.
2.) You may not have a ranking character as your first character at Dark Fort. If you're a veteran of Arolos, this requirement may be waived. Please read our rank page for details.
3.) Only two bronzeriders will be allowed per writer maximum. There's no fighting this. So if you have a hopeful candidate that wants a bronze, but you already have two, someone has to die.
4.) Female dragonriders, no matter what colour, count as a rank. And since they are so few at Fort, we only allow one female rider with a fighting dragon per writer. See Rule 3. We also only allow one female candidate per writer.5.) Firelizards in general are more rare than in the South. Most characters will not have more than one, and you'll have to justify owning one in your character's history. Whers are generally not considered pets, though there are some domestic Callameres around. Gold and bronze firelizards and all whers are minor rank. See rule 3. Firelizards are the only pets a rider may have.
6.) Please see our Candidate Pack for the full list of Candidate requirements. You are free to create as many male Candidate personae as you wish. Female Candidates will face some restrictions, but feel free to ask about those. However, please be aware that Dark Fort is not a Hatching-oriented game, and will only Hatch one PC clutch per real life year. If you want to play a Candidate for the sake of playing a Candidate, we'll love you. If, however, you want to play a Candidate with the definite goal of Impressing, you'll find yourself more comfortable at Arolos Weyr, which hosts two PC Hatchings a year. To adopt a Weyrling, please see our list of backdatable eggs.
7.) Flaws are your friend (and your convenient RP hook). Perfect personae will be laughed at, groaned at, and rejected. Realistic characters have warts, both physically and mentally.
8.) Twins will be limited. Triplets will require an act of Congress. Anything higher than that will be gleefully assigned birth defects and developmental problems, if they survive.
9.) Women may ride green, blue, and gold, though there are precious few fighting females in Fort. Men may ride green, blue, brown, and bronze. We do not restrict Impression on the basis of sexual orientation. MOST bronzeriders will be heterosexual, MOST greenriders will be homosexual, and so on. There are exceptions. However, ALL gold, bronze, and brownriders had best ACT heterosexual, and all green and blueriders will be assumed to be homosexual or bisexual, regardless of their actual orientation. Greenriders are said to 'become' homosexual after the first time a Real Man (tm) catches them in a mating flight, no matter what they were beforehand.
10.) Riders may be Journeymen only if they Impressed after walking the tables, or rose to journeyman at least nine Turns ago, before the Pass started. In the case of Harper and Healer Journeymen, please see the rank requirements.
